IT / OT Engineer
Location: Oldenzaal | Employment: 32–40 hours per week
Salary: €3,300–€5,000 gross per month on a full-time basis, excluding holiday allowance
About this role.
Do you have experience with IT networks, servers or infrastructure and want to work with technology directly connected to industrial production? As an IT/OT Engineer at iAUTOMATION and OT Security Hub, you will help make industrial IT and OT environments reliable, manageable and secure. We also welcome applicants with a primarily IT background who want to move into OT.
At our customers, servers and networks support machines, control systems and production processes. That means you will consider availability, maintenance windows, network segmentation and the particular requirements of industrial installations. You will work across environments in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, energy, chemicals, and food and beverage.
Depending on your experience, you may help configure and manage networks, firewalls and virtualization platforms, or independently design solutions and coordinate migrations. You will work with automation engineers, investigate incidents and carefully document settings and changes. Security and operational reliability go hand in hand.
We welcome both developing engineers and experienced specialists. You do not need to know every OT technology already; we are interested in what you can do today and how you want to grow in industrial infrastructure and cybersecurity.
What will you do?
Your responsibilities will include
- Industrial IT/OT network design and management: Help implement infrastructure that must remain available and manageable in production environments.
- Firewalls, switching, routing and VLANs: Configure and maintain secure access and network segmentation appropriate to industrial systems.
- Servers and virtualization: Install and manage servers, workstations and virtualization environments supporting SCADA and other OT applications.
- Migrations, upgrades and security measures: Plan and execute changes carefully with continuity and security in mind.
- Integration with automation systems: Work with automation engineers to align network and system requirements with industrial controls.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting: Detect abnormal behavior, investigate system or network incidents and restore service with the team.
- Architecture and configuration documentation: Record technical decisions, configurations and changes so environments remain maintainable.
The level of independence expected will depend on your experience, the project and the customer environment.
What does the role offer?
- A gross monthly salary of €3,300–€5,000, depending on your knowledge and experience, on a full-time basis and excluding holiday allowance.
- 25 vacation days and 13 additional ADV days each year for full-time employees (38 days off in total).
- 8% holiday allowance, paid in June.
- Pension accrual through Pensioenfonds Metaal en Techniek (PMT), subject to the pension scheme’s participation requirements.
- Employment conditions under the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Metal and Technology – Technical Installation Companies (CAO Metaal en Techniek – Technisch Installatiebedrijf).
- Flexible working hours between 08:00 and 18:00, where operational needs and customer commitments allow.
- A commuting allowance of €0.25 per kilometre for travel by private vehicle, up to a maximum commuting distance of 60 kilometres one way, in accordance with company policy.
- Compensation for overtime and additional business travel time in accordance with the applicable arrangements.
- Opportunities for education, training and certifications in line with your role and development.
- Varied work in industrial environments, direct communication and supportive colleagues.
- Annual team activities and a company Christmas dinner.
- Support for moving from IT into OT and opportunities to specialize in industrial infrastructure and cybersecurity.
Full-time employment means 38 paid contractual hours per week, with a 40-hour working week and ADV time accrued. For part-time employees, salary and leave are calculated pro rata.
What knowledge and experience do we ask for?
- An MBO level 4 or HBO qualification in IT, Network Administration, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of networks, servers or IT systems; responsibilities will grow with your experience.
- An interest in industrial processes and the technology supporting them.
- An analytical and careful approach to troubleshooting and changes.
- Clear communication with colleagues and customers.
- Good command of Dutch and English.
Technologies include routing, switching, firewalls, Windows Server, VMware and Hyper-V, as well as industrial protocols such as PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP. Experience in one or more of these areas is welcome; you can learn the rest with us.
