About the job

The energy transition requires smart decisions, clear risk assessments and strong financial frameworks. As an Expert Credit Risk Management, you play an important role in helping the trading department, Eneco Energy Trade, and the wider Eneco organization grow responsibly.

You work on substantial transactions where the financial interests and potential risks can be significant. Your advice helps Eneco enter into sustainable energy agreements while protecting its financial position and liquidity.

This is not a traditional control role. You are involved from the start. You assess counterparties, analyze risks, challenge assumptions and help structure transactions. You are working in deal teams, closely working together with different stakeholders and are checking and signing off on contracts as independent business partner. Whether you are an experienced medior ready for your next step or a senior professional who can provide direction and expertise, you will have the opportunity to make a visible impact.

You manage credit, capital and cash flow risks arising from our commodity and trading activities. You work closely with traders, dealmakers, Legal, Treasury, risk specialists and senior management.

You combine the roles of business partner and independent risk adviser. Rather than simply approving or rejecting a transaction, you explore how a deal can be structured responsibly. You challenge when needed but also look for solutions that enable the business to move forward.

There is not always a standard formula or one correct answer. You combine financial analysis, sound judgement and input from stakeholders to reach well-supported decisions.

This position focuses on complex business-to-business transactions, structured products and major counterparties. It does not involve accounts receivable, payment collection or managing overdue invoices. It is also not a dedicated modelling position, although experience with credit or exposure models is an advantage.

  • Analyzing counterparties, financial statements, business models and transaction exposures and translating your findings into clear credit recommendations;
  • Developing and improving counterparty limit frameworks, credit policies, escalation structures and mandates;
  • Monitoring credit limits, capital requirements and cash flow risks resulting from margining/trading, and acting appropriately when limits are exceeded;
  • Advising on and approving complex commodity contracts and structured transactions;
  • Working with dealmakers and other stakeholders to structure transactions that balance commercial opportunities and credit risk;
  • Negotiating credit-related terms, guarantees and other forms of risk mitigation with external counterparties;
  • Providing senior management with clear insights into risks, risk trends, limit breaches, scenarios and their potential impact.

You are an experienced credit risk professional who enjoys solving complex financial questions. You know how to analyze a company and its financial position, but you can also look beyond the numbers. You connect counterparty risk, exposure, contractual terms and the commercial context to form a clear view.

You also bring

  • An academic degree in Finance, Economics, Econometrics, Business Administration, Engineering Management or another relevant financial or quantitative field. A different educational background may be considered when supported by a strong track record or relevant postgraduate qualifications;
  • At least five years of relevant experience in credit risk analysis or credit risk management involving complex B2B transactions, structured finance, investment analysis or comparable markets/-products;
  • Strong financial analysis skills and the ability to assess financial statements, business models, counterparty risk and transaction exposure;
  • Knowledge of credit risk frameworks, policies, limits, mandates and relevant regulations;
  • Strong learning agility, pro-active, and the ability to connect different sources of information and make well-reasoned decisions, also when information is complex or incomplete;
  • Professional fluency in English, both spoken and written. A strong command of Dutch is a major advantage, as stakeholders and documentation may be Dutch-speaking;
  • You currently live in the Netherlands.

You will join Group Financial Risk Management, part of Finance & Risk. The department brings together credit risk and commodity risk expertise. Within the credit risk team, we assess both the financial strength of counterparties and the risks Eneco considers taking before entering into a contract. Together with our commodity risk colleagues we support and advice to the business as well as up to the Management Board.

You will work with curious and ambitious analysts who value sound reasoning, collaboration and continuous learning. In this role, you combine strategic responsibilities with hands-on analytical work. You help improve policies and support colleagues while continuing to perform analyses, review transactions and work directly with stakeholders.

The team values initiative, constructive assertiveness and personal leadership. Success is not only about identifying risks. It is also about taking responsibility, involving the right people and helping the organization find a responsible way forward.
