Senior Software Test Engineer

Overview

Pulse is an integration hub built to connect Certara applications. Our Test Engineers ensure

that Pulse meets the high quality expected by the internal teams and stakeholders who rely

on it. You will automate test cases where appropriate, design the frameworks needed to

create functional, API, and integration tests, and lead testing for the Pulse product. You will

act as Test Lead for Pulse, owning the testing approach and the quality of the application.

We look for someone with a track record of taking pride in that ownership, and who may

also guide other testers where the team requires it.

You will develop, document, and execute formal test plans and procedures in an agile

environment, and use the results and feedback to continuously improve the testing and

software validation process. You will track test coverage metrics, prioritize testing gaps,

and partner with the Compliance team so our testing process aligns with company SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Test Lead for Pulse: plan and coordinate test activities and own the testing

approach, and guide other testers where applicable.

• Define and maintain the Testing Services Strategy for Pulse, including scope, test

levels, tooling, environments, coverage goals, and release criteria.

• Design, build, and maintain automated end-to-end UI tests using Playwright.
• Design and execute API tests to validate Pulse services, contracts, error handling, and

integrations.

• Review AI-written tests for correctness, coverage, maintainability, and alignment with

requirements before they are accepted into the suite.

• Review Grafana dashboards to monitor application health, performance, and test

results; identify anomalies and feed findings back into testing priorities.

• Plan and execute testing in the simulation environment, including setup and

conditioning of simulation data.

• Work with the Compliance team to ensure the testing process, documentation, and

evidence align with applicable SOPs.

• Participate in ticket refinement, and analyze requirements and advise developers

where documentation is unclear.

• • Perform manual verification of completed tickets, exploratory/ad-hoc testing,

boundary testing, and end-to-end testing of release candidates.

• Perform data setup and test data creation activities.
• Track test coverage metrics, prioritize testing gaps, and report quality status to

stakeholders.

• Identify and communicate defects and their impact.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience testing applications, including experience leading

testing efforts.

• Hands-on experience with Playwright for web UI test automation.
• Experience testing APIs (e.g., REST) using tools such as Postman or code-based

frameworks.

• Experience in at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g.,

TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Java, .NET).

• Ability to analyze requirements and advise developers who lack clear documentation.
• Broad knowledge of testing frameworks and the ability to determine which is best for

a particular project.

• Experience organizing test suites, and writing useful, concise test cases.
• Ability to organize projects; experience acting as a Test Lead.
• Ability to define a testing strategy and communicate it to technical and non-technical

stakeholders.

• Experience reviewing test code, including AI-generated tests, for quality and coverage.
• Familiarity with Grafana or similar observability/monitoring dashboards.
• Experience using version control (preferably git).
• Ability to provide examples of previous work you are proud of.
• Passion for software quality and development; self-motivated and gets things done

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience working in a regulated environment (clinical trials, life sciences) and with

SOP-driven testing processes and documentation.

• Experience testing in simulation or modeling environments.
• Experience working in an Agile Scrum process.
• Experience writing SQL queries.
• Experience working with CI/CD tools (e.g., CircleCI).
• Strong understanding of web design and user experience.
• Experience with performance, security, or network testing.
