About the job
Job
Mechanical Engineer
Mid-level/Senior
Job description
At BKL, you develop high-tech mechanical solutions and remain involved until your design has been built, tested and improved where needed.
BKL Engineering in Nuenen develops and builds high-quality mechatronic special-purpose machines, tools, lifting systems and transport systems for customers in various industries. We combine engineering with production, inspection and maintenance. With our own development department and workshop, we can realise, test and improve our designs in-house.
Machine safety, risk assessment and CE marking form an important part of our work. We therefore look beyond whether a design functions properly: it must also be safe to build, use and maintain.
Do you want to do more than design behind your screen? At BKL, you see your ideas become reality. In our own workshop, you consult directly with the colleagues who build your design. You work in a dynamic environment together with engineering, assembly, purchasing and service, and you discuss technical choices with customers. Thanks to short lines of communication, you can act quickly and make decisions efficiently.
Your role
You develop mechanical concepts using 3D CAD and PLM systems and work them out into complete designs, machines and/or complex subsystems. You translate customer specifications into a design, taking into account functionality, safety, reliability, cost and strength.
During the realisation phase, you remain closely involved. You support assembly, carry out tests and incorporate improvements into the design and documentation.
In this role, you contribute to
- Machines and tools that meet customer specifications and operate safely and reliably.
- A strong connection between design, production, assembly and maintenance.
- Improvements to existing products based on experience from the workshop and customer sites.
Your responsibilities
- Analyse customer specifications and translate them into functional requirements and mechanical or mechatronic concepts.
- Develop designs into 3D models, drawings, bills of materials and technical documentation.
- Perform strength and stiffness calculations and other technical analyses.
- Assess designs for manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, safety and cost.
- Contribute to safety risk assessments, FMEA activities and CE-related documentation.
- Discuss technical choices with customers and colleagues and ensure design quality through design reviews.
- Support assembly and evaluate improvement suggestions from production and service.
- Prepare test procedures, assess test results and incorporate improvements.
- Update the technical file based on the realised design.
- Monitor progress and quality within your own work and, where needed, coordinate technical activities.
- For the senior level: coordinate technical activities and guide other engineers where needed.
What do you bring?
You have extensive experience in mechanical or mechatronic engineering and are able to independently manage a design process. You make well-founded technical decisions, maintain a clear overview and proactively identify potential bottlenecks. You also know when to involve the expertise of a colleague.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a comparable level of experience.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience for the mid-level role and at least 7 years for the senior role.
- Experience with the full design process, from customer specification and concept development to realisation and verification.
- Solid knowledge of strength and stiffness calculations and the ability to analyse and substantiate mechanical designs.
- Knowledge of machine safety, the Machinery Directive, relevant directives, standards and design guidelines.
- Experience with 3D CAD software; NX and Teamcenter are a plus.
- Practical knowledge of materials, production processes and assembly, with an eye for cost and manufacturability.
- Good communication skills in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
- For the senior role: experience guiding engineers and coordinating technical work.
- You work accurately, take ownership of your work and enjoy finding practical solutions to technical challenges.
What do we offer?
At BKL, you will have a varied role with responsibility, freedom and room to develop further. You will work with committed, experienced colleagues with whom you can exchange ideas and on whom you can rely. We value your ideas and expertise and give you the opportunity to contribute to improvements.
You can count on
- A varied position in high-tech machine building.
- Attractive employment conditions in accordance with the Metalektro collective labour agreement, including a pension scheme and travel allowance.
- A full-time employment contract of 40 hours per week at BKL Engineering in Nuenen. Part-time employment is possible by mutual agreement.
- The option to work from home one day per week.
- A gross monthly salary between €4,232 and €6,460 based on 40 hours per week, depending on your experience.
- 27 holiday days and 13 ADV/ATV days based on a full-time contract.
- A modern facility with its own workshop.
- Opportunities for training and personal and technical development.
- Opportunities to further specialise in machine safety, risk assessment and CE marking.
- Career development opportunities within the organisation.
- An open and honest working atmosphere.
