About the job

WORKING AT DEEP.

Hydrographic Surveyors at Deep work on exciting hydrographic and geophysical projects for the development of new offshore windfarms, salvage, large infrastructural projects, climate adaptation and coastal defence work for a wide variety of clients. You will do this surrounded by an experienced team and supported by highly skilled colleagues so you can learn the ins and outs of the specialised survey equipment and advanced techniques.

Deep is specialised in nearshore marine zones and inland waterways and has an ambition to be a planet proof sustainable survey company in the next few years. Deep also supports salvage companies when emergencies are at hand, resulting in challenging projects all around the world. Deep operates mainly in Europe, but our aim is to have fun at work and therefore we always look for international projects to challenge Deepers to go places we haven’t been before. For example, our Antarctica survey, port surveys in Djibouti, or a UXO survey in Taiwan.

YOUR ROLE.

As a Medior Hydrographic Surveyor, you are responsible for the successful execution of hydrographic survey operations. Work is primarily conducted onboard survey vessels and at project locations as part of a multidisciplinary survey team. Your role combines practical fieldwork with technical data acquisition and quality control, requiring you to work accurately and independently in a dynamic project environment. You can be part of a team on board big survey vessels or be your own boss on smaller projects.

During survey operations, you will mobilise, calibrate, operate and monitor a range of hydrographic and geophysical survey equipment. You will acquire survey data, perform online quality control to ensure that collected data and field deliverables meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy. When issues occur, you will investigate the cause, troubleshoot the equipment or data and take appropriate action to ensure the survey meets the required standards. As you gain experience, you will also support and guide junior surveyors and contribute to the preparation and successful execution of projects. If you are not working on a project, you will assist the engineers in the warehouse with the preparation and maintenance of project equipment or offer support to the data processing department.

Please note that this is a hands-on surveying position. While a strong academic background is valuable, we are specifically looking for candidates who have practical experience carrying out survey operations, operating survey equipment and working with hydrographic data in the field.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Project preparations: conduct project preparations and planning in line with requirements and risk assessments.
  • Survey operations: independently execute hydrographic and geophysical survey operations
  • Data acquisition: acquire survey data and perform online quality control to ensure data meets project specifications.
  • Equipment maintenance: maintain survey equipment and resolve common technical issues, both on the boat and in the warehouse
  • Project administration & reporting: handle reporting and project administration.
  • Safety: maintaining a safe working environment and protecting the safety of the people on bord.
  • Guidance & coaching: guide and support junior surveyors during project execution and developing their technical knowledge.

WHAT WE ASK.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Ocean Technology, Oceanography, Hydrography or a related field.
  • 3+ years experience in a similar position.
  • You have an EU-residency/work permit.
  • You live, or want to live, in the Netherlands.
  • Experience with Qinsy is an advantage.
  • In possession of a valid driver’s license (B, preferably incl. BE).
  • Pro-active, practical and flexible mindset.
  • Professional, solution-oriented attitude.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.

WHAT WE OFFER.

We provide a dynamic, informal company environment where ambition, honesty, and quality are paramount:

  • Team environment: work with like-minded professionals.
  • Development: high priority on training and development.
  • Culture: be part of a growing, inspiring, and innovative international company.
