About the job
What we do
Our client is pioneering sustainable offshore energy systems. We do this by combining maritime engineering, offshore experience, solar technology, battery systems and offshore integration knowhow into scalable solutions for offshore environments. Our ambition is to bring sustainable offshore energy systems to market and accelerate the transition to clean energy from offshore space. We are curious at heart. We learn, test, challenge and improve. We want to create impact by bringing sustainable offshore energy systems to market. We work with speed because our solutions need to be relevant. We build trust by sharing competence, taking ownership and working together with internal and external experts. To strengthen our engineering team, we are looking for a Lead Hydrodynamic Engineer.
As Lead Hydrodynamic Engineer, you are our analytical authority for hydrodynamics and stability. You will lead the analysis and verification of floating platform behaviour, including dynamic interaction between the Hull, Mooring and Umbilical systems. You will define and approve analysis methods, levels of fidelity, modelling assumptions, verification approaches and technical reporting. You will review and accept work performed internally and by external engineering partners and determine where further verification is required. You will work closely with Technical Owner Naval, who retains ownership of the Hull, Mooring and Umbilical systems and their final system-level decisions. Your role is to ensure that these decisions are supported by sound, traceable and appropriately validated analysis. This is a lead specialist role rather than a system-owner or hierarchical management position. You will provide technical direction and development support to Hydrodynamic Engineers and allocate hydrodynamic capacity within agreed project priorities.
What you will do
You will
- Provide hydrodynamic and stability input across feasibility, site assessment, R&D and all design phases.
- Define and approve the hydrodynamic analysis basis and associated Design Load Case (DLC) inputs and outputs.
- Select and justify the analysis methods and levels of fidelity required for the applicable design phase and technical decision.
- Define the stability analysis approach and approve intact and damaged stability analyses against the Hull design basis and criteria established by Technical Owner Naval.
- Define, develop, review and verify coupled dynamic models of the Hull, Mooring and Umbilical systems.
- Review and accept internal and external hydrodynamic, stability and dynamic-analysis deliverables, requiring additional work or verification where necessary.
- Define and coordinate hydrodynamic laboratory and scaled model test programmes and correlate experimental and numerical results.
- Strengthen our internal modelling and verification capability through OrcaFlex, OrcaWave, Python, post-processing and first-principles checks.
- Translate analytical findings and uncertainties into clear technical recommendations and represent us in discussions with clients and external technical parties.
- Provide technical direction, review, coaching and development support to Hydrodynamic Engineers.
What you bring
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in marine technology, offshore engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Eight or more years of relevant experience in hydrodynamic and stability analysis for floating offshore structures, including technical leadership and acceptance of complex studies.
- Demonstrated experience developing, reviewing and verifying coupled dynamic models of floating structures, mooring systems and umbilicals.
- The ability to select and justify analysis methods and levels of fidelity appropriate to the design phase and technical decision.
- Advanced practical experience with OrcaFlex, OrcaWave and Python for numerical modelling, automation, post-processing and verification.
- Strong first-principles engineering capability and the judgement to challenge complex model outputs.
- Experience defining hydrodynamic analysis bases, verification approaches, model-test programmes and technical reporting.
- The ability to review external engineering work, identify weak spots and determine whether the evidence is sufficient for technical acceptance.
- Experience presenting complex analytical findings and recommendations in technical discussions with clients and external specialists.
- Experience coordinating technical work and providing direction, coaching and development support to engineers.
Preferred experience It is a strong advantage if you also bring:
- Experience in offshore oil and gas, subsea systems or comparable floating offshore applications.
- Knowledge of classification processes involving Bureau Veritas, DNV, Lloyd’s Register or equivalent bodies.
- Experience supporting full-scale prototype verification or site-based test campaigns and interpreting operational measurements against numerical predictions.
What we offer
- The possibility to work abroad for 2 weeks per year.
- A great challange at a start-up. Let's pioneer together!
- A salary around €6.000,- gross per month.
