Your role in the story

As a Jr. Marine Engineer, you support the preparation and execution of Heerema’s offshore projects by contributing to marine engineering activities related to hydrostatics, hydrodynamics and operational workability.

Working closely with experienced marine engineers, project teams and vessel teams, you will analyze how our vessels and offshore operations respond to waves, wind and current. Your work supports the safe and efficient planning of complex offshore activities across Heerema’s different product lines.

In this role, you will apply your theoretical knowledge to real offshore challenges while developing your expertise in hydrodynamic analyses, vessel behavior and workability assessments. Through practical experience, data analysis and guidance from senior colleagues, you will build the foundation to become an independent Marine Engineer within Heerema.

Development opportunities

As a Jr. Marine Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of offshore operations across multiple product lines, including Decommissioning, Transport & Installation, and Offshore Wind.

Working alongside experienced engineers, you will gradually take on increasing responsibility for hydrodynamic analyses, workability assessments and the preparation of marine engineering reports. You will gain experience with numerical modelling, engineering software and operational data from Heerema’s vessels.

This offers an excellent platform to strengthen your technical knowledge, develop your programming and data-analysis skills and grow towards independently supporting increasingly complex offshore operations. You may also gain practical exposure by working temporarily offshore, overseas or from one of Heerema’s other offices.

What you will be working on

• Hydrodynamic and vessel motion analyses
• Analyze the motion behavior of Heerema’s vessels under the influence of waves, wind and current.
• Perform hydrodynamic analyses of offshore operations using frequency-domain and time-domain software.
• Support the development and validation of numerical models using engineering data and operational experience.
• Workability and project support
• Perform workability assessments based on environmental conditions, vessel capabilities and operational limitations.
• Support tenders, projects and technical developments with marine engineering input.
• Contribute to the preparation and review of marine engineering reports.
• Support project and vessel teams in evaluating the feasibility and safe execution of offshore operations.
• Use programming and data-analysis tools to process engineering data and improve analyses.
• Actively share knowledge, experiences and engineering tools to contribute to a continuously improving and learning organization.

Key ingredients for success

• Master’s degree in marine technology, Offshore Technology, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline.
• Approximately 0-2 years of experience in marine engineering or a related engineering environment.
• Good programming and data-analysis skills, preferably using Python.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate theoretical knowledge into practical engineering solutions.
• A practical and pragmatic approach to solving technical challenges.
• Good communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
• Eagerness to learn, develop your technical expertise and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary project teams.
• Willingness to work temporarily offshore on Heerema’s vessels, overseas or from one of our other offices.
