About the job
Vacancy: Data Engineer (OHDSI)
Who are you?
You are an experienced Data Engineer who likes to build robust and high-performing code to handle huge amounts of clinical data. You enjoy sharing knowledge and presenting your work through clear and efficient communication with researchers, data owners, and other stakeholders, and you have a strong scientific interest in analytics. You also enjoy building ETL pipelines to convert biomedical data from a wide variety of source systems to open standards.
As a data engineer at The Hyve and as part of an enthusiastic team, you will add value to our tools in different projects. You are eager to learn both independently and in collaboration with others and to apply new technologies.
And we?
The Hyve is a young, international IT company employing software developers, solutions architects, and data engineers. We are dedicated to delivering solutions that support scientists in life sciences and healthcare R&D using open-source software, open data, and open standards. Our vision is to enhance the quality and impact of biomedical research by providing biomedical informatics solutions.
We want to expand our OMOP/OHDSI team. Its mission is to bring out the value of real-world healthcare data. The team works with the OMOP Common Data Model, a globally used standard that allows federated network studies while preserving patient privacy. The OHDSI tool suite provides open-source software for large-scale analytics, enabling researchers, regulators, and Health Technology Assessment (HTA) bodies to answer population- and patient-level questions to make better decisions. We provide services like tool deployment, data conversion, development, consulting, and training as a team.
Your responsibilities
- Write excellent code, tests, and documentation for analytics packages and high-performing ETL pipelines.
- Actively communicate with external collaborators in open-source communities, data owners, and other stakeholders (through presentations, workshops, etc.)
- Active collaboration with Sales and Project Management colleagues by joining calls and offering them support by describing technical solutions and discussing/pitching project ideas.
- Assist less experienced colleagues in improving their coding skills.
- Be a good sparring partner for our data engineers when designing data models and pipelines and estimating workload.
- Able to work both independently on a task and in a team on a project.
Must have
- Strong R and Python skills.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Experience working with relational SQL databases.
- Medical domain knowledge.
- Strong written and verbal skills in English.
- Based in or willing to move to The Netherlands.
- Affinity with what we want to achieve at The Hyve: improving the world by providing biomedical scientists with excellent tools for managing their data.
Nice-to-have
- An understanding of Cloud services.
- ETL optimization skills.
- Database performance optimization.
- Understanding of Statistics and Epidemiology.
What we offer
- 32-40-hour workweek
- Competitive salary, profit sharing, and bonus
- A young, diverse, and international team
- Located in Utrecht, the heart of The Netherlands
- Working with renowned research institutes worldwide
- Working with research departments of most of the top 10 pharma companies
- A Personal Development Budget to encourage your personal and professional development
